Artist Research.

To continue my artist research pages I have looked at Edvard Munch. I chose to study Munch's work as he portrays his mental state openly within it. I have chose the paintings: 'Jealousy', ' Melancholy', 'The Scream' and 'The Sick Child' to look at as I feel these paintings are the ones that show how Edvard Munch was feeling well at that moment in time. His work is inspiring to me as Munch shows no boundaries in expressing him self within his work, this is something I would like to achieve within my own work for my final project.

For this page I have used similar colours to what Munch uses for the background, sticking to: Reds, Oranges, deep Purples and Black. I used a small piece of card to smear the paint across the paper to create this mixed effect. I then found images of the named painting above and placed them around the page with information about himself, his work and my opinions of his work. If I were to change anything on this page, I would redo the background; making it look neater and less rushed.

The second artist I looked at was Frida Kahlo. I looked at her as she has suffered through mental health issues for the majority of her life and this is definitely portrayed within her work. I looked at her paintings where her life problems and mental state is on show and used these within my work. Kahlo inspired me as she shows no limits of how she presents her emotions within her work and I would like to also portray this within my final design.

I researched her paintings and chose the ones that deeply show her emotions and placed these in my book along with information about her and my opinions of her work. I used the natural brown page instead of placing a black or white sheet over the top as I felt the brown linked better with her style. I also used images of leaved for the boarder of this page as Kahlo based aloft of her paintings in natural spaces so I felt that the leaves linked to her paintings well. I feel this page is successful however if I were to change anything i would redo the background as I do not feel it created the effect as well I was hoping to it.

The final artist I looked at was fashion designer Alexander McQueen as he was another artist that suffered greatly with depression until he took his own life in 2009. I looked at dresses from his collections such as the Autunm/ Winter 2009/10 collection and his wedding dress collection. I chose to look at these as I feel his inner thoughts and demons are really portrayed through these dresses. Mcqueens work is inspiring to me as his creations are unique and creative and convey so many feelings and stories that they make the viewer if them feel so many different emotions at once.

For this page I used a black background as I feel his work is very dark and I wanted to portray that within this page. I then used different fabrics that I found to use as a boarder for each image of his work and for the information and opinions I wrote about him. I used this idea as I felt it linked in with him being a fashion designer and black so it fitted with the colour scheme. I then tatted some if the material to make it look battered as this is how he has displayed his wedding dress collection. For the title, I used the logo from his website. I feel this page is very successful and it is one of my favourite in my book. I feel everything links together we'll and is well presented. I would not change anything about this if I were to redo it.
