Interview Techniques.

Do's and Dont's:

  • DO dress smartly, look bright and attentive, and speak clearly and confidently.
  • DO prepare answers for the main questions - for example, why do you want the job, what are your strengths and weaknesses, what are the main tasks in this job?
  • DO prepare some questions to ask at the end of the interview - use it as an opportunity to find out more about the role and the company.
  • DO keep your answers focused on what you can do for the employer, not what they can do for you.
  • DON'T be late.
  • DON'T slouch in your seat or do anything that makes you look uninterested.
  • DON'T be arrogant and assume you've got the job. Nothing turns off employers more than someone who is disrespectful and over-confident.
  • DON'T criticise former employers or colleagues. Interviewers may mark you down as a troublemaker and a gossip.

Typical Questions:

  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • What can you do for us that other candidates can't?
  • Why do you want to work here?
  • What are your goals?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years time?
  • How would you describe yourself?
  • What experience have you got from previous jobs?
  • Progressional Opportunities.

    Art Work.

These are seven pictures from my FMP. Each different picture represents a different mental illness based around a quote I found when conducting primary research. I then asked my friend if he would be my model for my photography shoots. I considered being the model myself, however I wanted to be the one taking the photo as I wanted them to be exactly how I had intended, so I asked a friend.

    UCB Visit.

As part of unit nine, as a class we attended the University Campus Barnsley. Here we looked at further options after college such as extended eduction at university. We met and talked to different tutors who talked and gave us a tour of the facilities and a quick over view of what we could do if we attended the university, such as woodwork, textiles and fine art. We also had the chance to look at a range of students work, from first years to final degree level.

    Personal Statement.

    14/06/16

From a very early age, my inspiration has been to work in the architectural department. I feel this is an ideal career for me because I have travelled to various countires on family holidays; from experiences abroad, I have seen how I can make a good contribution to this area of work and further research about various structures and their relations to society and the environment. I am hard working, committed to my goals and want to help others for the better. I am also confident that my choice of Level 3 Art and Design Extended Diploma, will provide me with the solid foundation needed to proceed to undergraduate level.

The practical side of art and design will enable me to gain good technical skills and I am eager to acquire more developed and sophisticated techniques at university. The theoretical side will improve my written communication skills, which I believe to be important for any subject at university.

Throughout my life I have always been committed to my work and always had a long term goal and interest in learning about different buildings and becoming an Architect. I have a lot of influences since many of my family members have become architects and structural engineers and have become my role models to achieve my goals. Since primary school, I had seen myself helping and changing the environment and lives of others in the future. I feel that I have advanced this intention further by developing the necessary skills needed to become an architect, by teaching myself architectural softwares such as Revit, Google SketchUp and photoshop. As well as this, it includes, being committed and hard working as extended master courses can be up to seven years long, being friendly enabling me to build a rapport with clients and put them at ease in stressful situations and being able to deal with stress myself in tough times.

    Mood boards.

I have created a mood board for each mental illness I have researched. I have looked at how other people have tried to portray the mental illness in hope to inspire my own photographs. I printed off a series of different images and arranged them across the page. I have also found a quote for each illness to express how others with the illness feel.

I like these pages as they are neat and well organised and work well together as they are all similar in style. I would not redo these pages if I got the chance.

    Development pages.

All my development pages have followed the same theme. For each page I have used photos taken from various different photoshoots. I have then placed these on the page along with statistics of the chosen illnesses and it's definition.
I like these development pages as they are all similar making them look neat and organised. However the positioning of the photos could be neater.

    Primary Research.

For my Primary research, I have research stories of friends and family that have suffered with one of these nine mental illnesses. Depending on which illness they have suffered, I have asked every person similar questions 'what is ... like?' For them then to answer it in as much or as little detail as they pleased. Their answers where then displayed in speech bubbles on the page.
As some people I asked were not comfortable with me taking photographs of them for my sketchbook, I asked college students if I could photograph them, cropping out their heads to keep a sense of secrety. However, as I was limited in time I could not conduct this photoshoot. Therefore I asked another photography student if I could use her photographs as they were similar to the ones I needed. She happily agreed.

I like these pages as they stick with my theme and show what I aimed to portray however I feel the pages are boring to look at so I would redo the background to make them more visually appealing.
